Living in Tennessee
23 photos became 8 · eight months in Tennessee · the backroads
In January 2018 my husband and I left South Florida for Decherd, Tennessee, twenty-five miles from the Alabama border. I went to help my dad set up Micron Powder Coating, the business he and I would run together. I made the signs, the cards, the letterheads and the machine manuals, then stood at the powder gun. The doors opened in April.
On the weekends we drove the backroads. I was looking at the quiet things: silos in a bare field, rain hanging on a branch, a small town’s city hall. Everything here came from those drives.
The shop was not making enough yet, so we moved back to Florida in August. These are what I brought home.
